Hastings Pier, Hastings
The weight restriction of the delicate existing pier deck limited significantly the choice of suitable piling equipment.
The ground conditions consisting of loose sands overlying competent sandstone required a bored piling solution that would be capable of penetrating these soils to provide a socket into the bedrock to resist the significant characteristic lateral design actions.
The traditional cable percussive piling rig, weighing only 1 ton and consisting of a light Sykes winch with an attendant mini crane avoided the the need for a jack up barge and crane mounted piling rig and the considerable cost associated with such a large scale operation, providing a viable solution for this charitable restoration project.
